Tell us a little about your SPFBO Short.
Windwalker: Temple of the Shifting Sands is a prequel spin-off from the Windwalker Series, a desert fantasy about a hot-blooded girl fighting to defend her people from an ancient enemy. Temple of the Shifting Sands features her brother, Mica, as he embarks on a journey deep into the heart of the desert…
Amid the flat-topped buttes and arid hardpan of the Miralaja desert lies a secret. An entire city of people, hidden among the sand and stone.
When apprentice assassin Mica Fariq notices a curious being out on the dunes, he receives a striking vision of a woman in mortal danger. Compelled by a desire to help her, he and his windwalker friend set out across the desert on the back of a great winged raptor.
What they discover is more ancient than the entire history of their people. In a world of deadly monsters, traps, and timeless immortals, Mica must confront his own demons, and those from his vision if he hopes to survive the growing darkness in the Temple of the Shifting Sands.
What has been your favorite part of SPFBO?
Discovering all the enormously talented authors I’m lucky enough to join in the competition. This was my first time entering, and I’m so glad I did! There is no better literary community on the planet than that of self published authors and the readers willing to give us a shot. Thanks to everyone who took part!
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently about 12,000 words into the fourth installment of the Windwalker series – a story about a hot-blooded girl and her fierce, bonded aerial predator. As I was building the outline for this book (I’m a hopeless plotter who inevitably deviates), I decided I wanted to include a journey somewhere completely new. Can you blame me after so much time in the desert? This book will have adventure, aerial battles, love, loss, a journey far from home, introspection, strife, and of course, redemption.
Author bio
My name is Harold G. Chambers, and I’m a writer, though I haven’t always been. Flying helicopters, programming, touring with a punk band, space pirating…these are all things that came before.
Currently, I’m a hybrid–part stay-at-home dad, part author–making up fantastical stories that I hope people will continue to enjoy. When I’m not writing, wrangling, or reading, you’ll likely find me throwing dice and slaying dragons.
