2018 was the year I kicked my writing into gear and 2019 hopefully will be no exception. To hold me accountable to you, the reader, and myself, I am going to set out my publishing goals for 2019. Before I do that, I wanted to recap what I accomplished in 2018.
2018 goals achieved
- Published Trainee (Guild of Tokens #0.5) in May
- Published Initiate (Guild of Tokens #1) in June
- Released the Trainee audiobook in June
- Published Novice (Guild of Tokens #2) in December
- Finished Enforcer (Guild of Tokens #1.5) on December 30, which will be a newsletter-exclusive coming out this month
- Grew my mailing list from 50 friends and family to over 1000
- Met some cool indie authors
That’s a pretty sizable list, coming after a 2017 where my biggest accomplishment was writing every day during NaNoWriMo.
One goal I did not achieve was releasing a book every three months. I had grand plans on releasing Novice in September and then Recruit in December, but I only ended up finishing the draft of Novice in September and revisions were slower than expected.
But it’s a new year and I’m making an effort to have less time between releases. So without further adieu, here is how I see my 2019 shaping up.
2019 publishing goals
- Publish Recruit (Guild of Tokens #3) by the end of March / early April
- Publish the three-book Guild of Tokens omnibus, creatively titled Guild of Tokens, by the end of April / early May, which will include an exclusive short story
- Finish Raider (Guild of Tokens #2.5) by the end of April, for inclusion in the aforementioned omnibus and as a bonus for my newsletter subscribers
- Enter Guild of Tokens in SPFBO 5 (Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off) in June
- Publish the three-book audiobook omnibus of Guild of Tokens by mid-2019
- Write and submit a short story to the Keystroke Medium urban fantasy anthology
- Meet more cool indie authors through SPFBO
- Publish untitled part 1 of untitled second Jen Jacobs book of untitled series by the end of July
- Publish untitled part 2 of untitled second Jen Jacobs book of untitled series by the end of November
- Figure out whether to create spin-off Beatrice Taylor series
Recruit will cap off the first arc of Jen’s story and the completion of Guild of Tokens, but that doesn’t mean the story will be finished. Guild of Tokens is only book one of a larger series within an even larger series, and hopefully in 2020, after the second Jen Jacobs book is finished, I’ll be able to pull back the curtain on the larger story universe I’ve been planning.
Fellow writers, what are your publishing goals for 2019?
And readers, what would you like to see as the series progresses?
