In case you missed last month’s post, each month I’m recapping my writing progress, interesting articles, videos, and podcasts I read/watched/listened to, and books I finished.
Writing update
- More work on the next Guild of Tokens book, Recruit. It’s currently scheduled for an April release.
- Guild of Tokens is going audio! The first three parts will be released as an audiobook this summer. Will have news soon about the narrator!
Links and things
- I visited the Tolkien exhibit at the Morgan Library in New York recently. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in New York before May
- I’ve been following Theranos (and its downfall) for several years now. John Carreyou’s Bad Blood is a must-read, and I just started listening to ABC News’s new podcast, The Dropout.
- A sad good-bye to the Mars rover that even Mark Watney couldn’t save:
Sad news. Mars rover #Opportunity is probably done. Sometime tonight, a team @NASAJPL will make their final attempt to contact #Oppy. If they can't, they'll likely call the mission. Here's what happened… 1/ pic.twitter.com/oLgATexUHN

Stuff for writers
- Josh Hayes, who just went full-time as a writer, talks about diversifying income streams
- Keystroke Medium Live! Episode 4.05: Traditional vs. Indie Publishing with Nicholas Sansbury Smith
- Rethinking a writing career as a business, by Phil Williams
- 11 creative ways to boost reader engagement
Books I read
Two this month, both writing-related and both interrelated.
- Story by Robert McKee: Although the movie references are a bit dated and the material is very dense, this is a foundational work if you’re an author or screenwriter.
- How does a story start? by Steven Pressfield: Part of a series of monthly “jabs” that each cover a single creative issue, this one tackles the inciting incident.
